I think the care system is very unfair.  If you live in an ex local authority property with a parent, who has bought their home under Right to Buy, then that parent goes into a home due to illlness, even though you may have lived in that property for 40 years with your parent (the last few years of which you have been their carer), you are under risk of losing your home because the property will need to be sold to pay for the care fees.  This situation is only avoided if you reach the age of 60, which means you can stay on in the property, or if you have had your name put on the deeds.  If you are 59 and a son or daughter,  tough, care home fees and loss of the home you have lived in all your adult life, are coming your way. And, as I have said above, it is the judgement of who qualifies for free care.  It is an incredibly difficult thing to get, dementia on it’s own is not enough.
