I hadn't delved in deeply and hrnce hadn't noticed that the additional parameters in the formula used by Trump to calculate tariffs were set (seemingly arbitrarily) at 4 and 0.25. As they are multiplied together giving one they obviously have no effect when multiplied by the divisor in the equation. Thanks to BBCs More or Less for highlighting that and agreeing this is both fake maths and fake economics as it's definitely doesn't result in a reciprocal tariff. It's a trade imbalance indicator. |
