Hello Mr Boyce.  Forum member here who is not afflicted by TDS!

The blanket 25% tariff on car imports is obviously intended to encourage US customers to buy American vehicles, and also to galvanise its manufacturing industries to make vehicle parts; and to be honest I don't see the problem with that.  Media commentators are having a meltdown and getting hysterical about 'protectionism' but Trump is just putting his country first. This might backfire or it might just 'Might America Great Again'. 

The UK US imported about eight million cars last year - accounting for about $240bn (£186bn) in trade and roughly half of overall sales.
Mexico is the top supplier of cars to the US, followed by South Korea, Japan, Canada and Germany.

Most of the UK-made cars exported to the US are premium, such as Volkswagen-owned Bentley, while others are high-end vehicles such as McLaren supercars, selling just over 2,100 annually, some costing upwards of £250,000.

Luxury vehicle companies, some of whom have models with a starting price of £100,000 and rising to multiples of that figure, will hope they are able to pass the cost of tariffs on to wealthier customers without knocking their sales.  The people who have that level of funding to buy a luxury car will not worry about the extra tax.  In my opinion.
