Ivonne, Gerry There an article from the: NYT  https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/04/04/upshot/trump-tariffs-reciprocal.html which has the formula, as Ivonne detailed, but the NYR points out it is simpler than the tne one used which is in the paper from Huff Post that linked to a day or so ago. As the NYT says the tariffs: Are only calculated using goods not services Ignore the type of goods Are compounded with previous tariffs for some countries but not others The base 10% seems arbitrary and is applied even if the trade balance is in the US's favour! Afghanistan has a base percentage but should be higher Trade deficit figures are taken from 2024 but perhaps a five year average would be more sensible? Basically, Trump fails his maths exam if only for not showing his workings!
