Considering the recent events around VW Group security and the revelation that it was capturing all its EV customer's GPS data and potentially made it publicly available - I think the Chinese threat is over exaggerated and other threats played down. Trade deficits are the primary concern and the realisation that the US is falling behind with technology. Of course they may use security as an excuse along with any number of other reasons to meet their goal.
