Roland, very few people will read the report on BBC for themselves. Even fewer will look up the original research. But that's not the point. Children aged 5-11 do not develop autism. It happens much earlier. There is no possibility of autism resulting from exposure to pollutants in this age group. Whatever the sample size, further study or extrapolation (the study cited is actually about the effect of pollution on foetuses and babies). "Pollution is bad for us" - well fair enough. But "autism and traffic pollution" in the context of the proposed primary school? It is a deliberate and dangerous mis-statement* of the facts. If a newspaper printed such a story they'd be pilloried. (*mis-statement is a polite synonym for "lie") |
