No, I'm not calling names. One of the things that comes over strongly from Philip Petchey's legal opinion is how long the Conservators have been allowing encroachment on to Commons land. Right at the beginning when the hospital was first built when WPCC agreed to the "re-arrangement" to the roads at the front, through to further extensions in the 1930's and then two agreements in 1955 and 1956 to build bigger roads and a car park. All this is set out in detail in the opinion (see www.friendsofputneycommon.org) if you feel like reading the complete history, and why the current Conservators have got it wrong. At around 40 pages it's a relatively long and not an easy read, but it does provide a fascinating insight into how we arrived in this situation. Nick |
