The Council is obviously being less than sure of itself in their plans for their new 2FE school and flats. Despite agreeing in Committee some while ago to invite "providers" to bid to run the new school, it has taken several months for them to actually publish an invitation to tender. The documents can be seen at http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/info/100005/education_and_learning/489/schools_consultations/19 Interestingly their new schedule says that the old Putney Hospital buildings will not be demolished until February 2013. Howver this new timetable is increasingly unlikely given there are two judicial reviews (one on the lack of an EIA, the other on the road building) that could take months or even years to resolve. Commonsense would suggest that they should at the very least get on and demolish the buildings whatever the likely outcome of the above. After all the hoarding is becoming more and more tatty, and the building itself less weather tight - no windowframes or glass etc etc. A real mess. If they get on and at least remove this eyesore their £5m investment in an island of land surrounded by Common might attract some alternative suitable use, as suggested by residents. But no, they'll leave it to become even more derelict - a blight on the neighbourhood. Perhaps a way of reminding everyone that the Council's will cannot ever be thwarted. But as with everything else, they're wrong about that too. Come on, knock it down. Get on with it. The site is a disgrace. An advertisement for the Council's incompetance. Nick |
