| Jonathan, I don’t think any part of ‘anti-car zealots with time on their hands’ is particularly rude - certainly not by the standards of Putney Forum where I myself have been called a ‘psycho killer’ and by implication a liar and a pervert. My comment also has the merit of being true. The move to introduce a blanket 20 mph speed limit without proper public consultation and to enforce it in a rigid manner, giving fines and points for minor infractions, is over-zealous. Along with other policies such as LTNs, blanket limits are partly inspired by an anti-car ideology. I also suspect (and no doubt you will correct me if I am wrong) that many of the campaigners in the Putney Society are retired folk who use their cars relatively infrequently, mostly for shopping and to visit their relatives. |
