The Palestinians were there and in the majority, and the Zionists were not. But the Zionists were Europeans and the Palestinians were not. To begin with the Zionists depended on the guns and power of an imperial foreign nation (yes, us). They did not see the Palestinians as equals. They aimed to conquer and obtain maximum land with minimum Palestinians. They terrorized and drove out hundreds of thousands of their "equals". They will not allow Palestinians to return to their land, but they will allow any Jewish person from anywhere in the world to immigrate. The talk of a "National Home" was just a mask - they wanted a state. And Israel is gradually and inexorably taking the remaining land from the Palestinians. Lebanon is a state, Iraq is a state, Jordan is a state, Syria is a state, but somehow Palestine had to be made a special case, outside the normal developments. Not equal, after all. |
