| "Why should Arab nationalism be any more legitimate than Jewish nationalism?" Why should Jewish nationalism be any more legitimate than Palestinian nationalism? And the Palestinians were still there. As you well know the Palestinians have thousands of years of unbroken presence in the land. The Israelis descend,in part, from the people who left. And the only way that the Zionists were able to successfully migrate to Palestine was with massive British backing against the wishes of the existing population. Unlike all the other countries of the Middle East, the wishes of the native population were disregarded, in favour of colonists. People in Britain facing increasing levels of immigration are reacting strongly. Why would British people expect that Palestinians, in a much worse situation being inexorably ethnically cleansed, should react differently? |
