| Philippa, you are confusing the West Bank, where there are roads reserved fo Jewish settlers, with Israel itself, where the roads are used by Jewish Israelis and Aranb Israelis alike. This suggests that the border between Israel and Gaza was not completely sealed. But generally Palestinians from Gaza were not allowed to enter Israel for Dear that they might commit acts of terrorism (such as those perpetrated on October 7). It is worth noting that the Egyptian authorities do not allow Palestinians from Gaza to cross into Egypt for the same reason. The Egyptians don't want a bunch of Hamas crazies roaming round their country. If Hamas were prepared to live peaceably with their neighbours, there would be no need for strict border controls. Unfortunately Has are Islamist fanatics who wish to overturn the regime in Egypt and destroy the State of Israel. |
