| The idea that Palestine was 'colonised a hundred years ago' is historical fantasy. Leaving aside the Assyrians (8th century BC), the Babylonians (6th century BC), the Greeks (4th century BC), Palestine was conquered by the Romans in 63 CE (when the Jews were expelled), the Arabs in the seventh century, the Ottoman Turks in 1516, who ruled for 400 years, and by the British in 1917. Narrowing down colonisation to the period when Jewish settlers started to buy land from the Turkish owners in the late nineteenth century is anti-Semitic propaganda, favoured by Hamas and their fellow travellers in the West. |
