Message: There are several problems with this. The first is that, according to the figures I have received from Wandsworth Borough Council, there is no need for more school places. In the secondary sector there are spaces in all years in all schools except one. In addition there is a surplus of out of borough students in Wandsworth schools. Another problem is that the "free" school idea is an import from Sweden and, at the same time that Mr Gove is pushing his Academies Bill through with unseemly haste, Sweden is considering dumping its policy because the "free" schools have been shown to increase community fragmentation and divisions and overall lower educational standards. Wandsworth Save Our Schools is campaigning for all schools to be given support by and under the watchful eye of the local authority - hence it opposes academies. saveourschools@btinternet.com |
