I feel a bit torn on this issue. There were big problems with the BSF; in particular, it was an extraordinarily expensive way of getting the rebuilds because it relied on the absurd and wasteful PPP racket, which is a means of providing much corporate welfare for all the private firms with their greedy snouts in the public trough. But of course that wasn't why Gove scrapped it: this was a cheap and nasty bit of politics on his part to take cash from the BSF, especially when the programme was pretty far advanced so he could fund his "free" (no such thing, of course) schools for the middle classes. |
