It will be interesting to watch how our MP and Conservative Council fight for Putney constituents over these school building cuts, (and others predicted to follow such as police numbers), which, as a Treasury minister Ms Greening was quick to instigate but did not stress in her election campaign. This I recall concentrated predominantly on local issues such as the third Heathrow runway, parking charges in Richmond Park, and the lift and newstand at Southfields station. I do recall her supporting Conservative plans for 'free' parent run schools, so while Putney constituents are effectively de-franchised over opposition to state school spending cuts I presume those wanting extra spending on these independent schools will get her and the Council's full support. Readers of PUTNEYSW15.com who are concerned with school and other spending issues should keep an eye on 'Brightside', the council newspaper, to see what position our councillors take. In the past they were never slow to criticise Labour Ministers for interfering with their pet projects. Will they be as vocal in publicly challenging what Conservative Ministers are now doing to vital local services, of which I assume they are in favour? |
