The front page of this site welcomes the new Wandsworth Chief Exec who has increased his salary from Sutton where he is currently on £167,000 to over £200K plus performance related pay in Wandsworth. Maybe it is now time to insist on public sector executives and directors taking salary cuts. The monies saved could be used to offset some of the government cuts e.g. new school halls etc. It also begs the question - the new Chief Exec was paid £167,000 to do essentially the same job in Sutton, so what justifies the substantial extra pay in Wandsworth? These salaries are increasingly insensitive to their electorate and to front line staff given all the impending cuts. Wandsworth's position in lobbying the government will be greatly strengthened if it puts its own house in order before addressing this. |
