Hello Sue,

I found this Chatham House article a few days ago and it  explains it all very well indeed.  The main reason that Iran was attacked is that it does not have nuclear weapons, at least, not yet. 

Ukraine, Iraq and Libya all agreed to stop their nuclear programmes...  Surprisingly, they were all attacked....

I suspect, and I stress the word suspect, that Iran was attacked mainly because of its hydrocarbon (10% of the world's oil reserves and 15% of gas reserves) plus, of course, uranium.
