Caroline Whitehead, the reason the board is not happy about the report is because it doesn't like what the report says.

In a blind panic, the WPCC tried to rubbish the report by discrediting the way it was commissioned. Until, that is, Nick and John had to remind it of their committee's terms of reference.

It was perfectly reasonable for a majority of the audit and risk committee (now done away with, needless to say) to commission professional advice. It was also perfectly legal for it do so.

It is lame of the WPCC executive and its apologists to complain now about the way the report was commissioned, when it was the WPCC executive that would have approved that committee's terms of reference.

And is it any wonder that the committee didn't tell the WPCC's then chairman and CEO about its plans until after the report had been written? We all know now from Nick about the culture at the core of this charity: gagging orders, documents being withheld, the CEO refusing to respond to specific questions and meetings where the Putney Hospital scandal was a forbidden topic of discussion and so on.

The audit and risk committee was simply acting - perfectly legally and properly - in the only way it could to obtain professional advice.

If the executive had had its way it would simply have blocked the commissioning of the report and the ability of the audit and risk committee to do its job. And of course if the Montagu Evans report had NOT established a 1.5 million pound undersale, I am sure the former chairman and CEO would have welcomed it. They were after all planning to obtain a retrospective QSR (which would have cost roughly the same as the one the audit and risk committee obtained).

But never mind the audit and risk committee being "naive" or "subservise" in daring to seek professional advice: the question should surely be why the previous administration did not seek the very same professional advice before entering into this highly dodgy and secretive deal with the council which involved the loss of part of Putney Common - for peanuts.

And why the current executive appears hell-bent on preventing this question being answered truthfully.
