This hotel proposal advertised itself as a no car hotel when we first saw it last winter. It looked very promising. Many of us thought a hotel would be good in this area and minimise impact on the neighbours. Not the case! It is a hotel with no car parking spaces. Their visitors would have to park in neighbouring streets. Not only that but to manoeuvre their delivery lorries in Woodlands Way they request the removal of existing residential parking bays. They estimate 70 taxi drop off/pick ups per day. This would mainly be done in the layby of the Crown Court building which does not belong to them and is blocked off outside working hours. Office space would be lost too. At 11 stories + a lift shaft on the roof it nears 12 stories. It is a solid block pushed as far forward onto the pavement as possible both on the URR and on Woodlands Way. The application makes little if any reference to the pedestrian traffic through Woodlands Way of mainly mothers with young children during the day and commuters at other times of the day. Since we are nearing the end of the consultation period on this high rise development do remember to have a look at the plans shown under larger applications on WBC's website and send your comments to : rclaxton@wandsworth.gov.uk copy in your Councillors and J Greening and the Leader of the Council who pledged "buildings similar in scale to the existing ones" only a few months ago. A hotel, yes please, but at the risk of repeating myself on his forum one of human scale and one that understands the area and does not harm the local amenities of the existing residents. My personal opinion for what it is worth is that this proposal actually does harm the local amenities of the existing residents. Why are we still confronted with proposals that seek to be " Gateways to Putney"? The answer must rest somewhere in the Council's offices and their vision of Putney that is not shared by the existing Council Tax paying residents as has been demonstrated with Putney Place and Tileman. I doubt that developers would keep going for "Gateways, Iconic and landmark buildings" unless they were actively encouraged to do so. In the meantime East Putney buildings get boarded up one by one.
