I agree that the idea of a hotel suits most of us. As for employment the proposed scheme unfortunately only offers 12 full time jobs. The main issue with its neighbours would have to be the height of the building and the quality of its appearance. Having seen a number of travelodge hotels in the recent past, the appearance is rather down trodden and cheap looking. East Putney badly needs redevelopment with good quality "human scaled" buildings. An 11 storey building would dominate the neighbours and in the case of Woodlands Court block the sky and sunlight significantly. There is no opposition to new buildings, in fact we are anxious to see redevelopment. Human scale and good quality is what is sought by the residents who will have to live with it for the next 40 years. Behind and near the URR, there are numerous low rise residential buildings ( a fact generally forgotten)that would be dominated and dwarfed if the developers were encouraged to double the heights of existing buildings as is suggested for Tote and Capsticks. |
