There have been a flood of "major" planning applications since the council elections (coincidence? - I doubt it). There are also applications currently out for consultation for: Arton Wilson House (2010/3273), the former NHS nurses accommodation on Roehampton Lane, where previously 100% affordable homes will be replaced with just 13%; and 3 storey blocks currently used as halls of residence for university students will be replaced by 6 storey blocks The new site for Putney GP services is going to be Carlson House at 266 Upper Richmond Road (2010/3094) - the big office block opposite Ravenna Road, where an application is in to change the use into a "primary care facility". Probably not controversial other than this is a massive building and it's being rented, not owned by the NHS. And the controversial redevelopment plan for the garages in West Hill Road (2010/0325) - next door to George Eliot's former house - is still being amended by the applicants despite receiving permission from the Conservative council a few weeks ago The London Mosque in Gressenhall Road (2010/0486) - this is actually a positive application in my opinion, in that it will improve the quality of ancillary buildings and return former residential homes now used as offices back to homes - but there are a huge number of objections largely based on the incorrect idea that this is to expand the number of worshippers. Returning to this site, I seem to recall there was an application submitted a few months ago for this site, and the adjoining Magistrates Court (I think) - the developer then wanted a building of similar height to SWI5H tapered at the top so that it didn't look quite so high as it was. This is going to be another big battle against the Conservatives' passive, cosy and opaque relationship with developers and the thoroughly depressing overdevelopment vision they have for Putney. |
