| I watched a DVD yesterday that described the efforts of the police to catch rapist and burglar Delroy Grant known colloquially as 'The Night Stalker'. What was striking were the efforts the officer leading the hunt for him had to make to set up a temporary squad of about 100 surveillance officers to monitor the suspect. Today I believe the pro-Palestine demonstrators have taken a day off from marching through London ("been there, done that"), hopefully allowing the police to concentrate on the high rates of burglaries, shop lifting, knife attacks and other crimes in the Capital. However I have learnt from my AM Leonie Cooper that costs for policing previous marches from 7/10/23 - 31/12/23 have amounted to £32.5 million, with further costs obviously arising from later marches. Doubtless this will be reflected in the next Mayoral precept in our Council Tax bills. But more to the point on how many more important areas could this money have been spent, rather than on an issue in a far away land, both of which we have no interest in or influence over ? |
