I've just driven past the signs for the first time. Night was falling. My impression is that they constitute not just terrible taste, but also a potential danger. If you consider the motives of the advertisers, rather than of the Rugby club, they must be to attract the attention of passing motorists, heading both east and west. The extreme brightness, orientation and size of the signs constitute an obvious distraction for those driving by, and that cannot be good news for road safety on URR. I wonder if the Council took that into account when they approved the signs. I think there is need for a rethink by all concerned, not least the Rosslyn club managers whose judgment on this occasion has gone awry. |
