Sue it certainly was not corruption. Mr Gow and other multiple owners did not buy the properties from the Council they simply bought up any property that the owner (either the original purchaser from the Council or one further down the line) wanted to sell. many were former RTB properties but some were from the sales area sales, this has not just happened in Wandsworth and will happen again across London and elsewhere if the sale of Housing Association properties goes ahead post election. thats where RTB or any discounted scheme is wrong. in the 80's and 90's many RTB tenants sold up at the end of the then 5 year holding period (now 3) and moved out. those properties were bought up by this chap and other multiple owners across London and the south east in particular and others. this will happen again. I appreciate that folk did not know it was happening or had not realised the effect (even though they were being told by opposition Councillors) but it was happening in broad daylight and folk did not want to know quite frankly. |
