"The council is spending significant extra sums on providing homes for families who have become homeless through no fault of their own. The vast majority of this accommodation is here in south west London. Only around three per cent of cases are relocated outside London, and often this is because these families have expressed a wish to move to other parts of the country. Every town hall in London is experiencing an increase in the number of people who need help with housing. In Wandsworth the council has approved a wide ranging package of measures to make sure that everyone who needs one has a proper roof over their heads. Wandsworth’s supply of affordable housing is on target to rise by 5,000 over the next decade, while the council’s wider housing strategy – the Wandsworth Housing Offer – includes a commitment to deliver a total of 18,000 new homes over the next ten years, helping to satisfy the housing ambitions of a broad range of local people." |
