I agree, Michael, that Jonathan's comment was mildly impertinent rather than abusive. I guess I am a bit fed up with being told that I get my opinions from the 'Mail', 'Telegraph' or 'Express'.

Burnham's move to reignite the Brexit debatehas little to do with an assessmentof the country's economic situation. If there were an urgent need to rejoin the EU, how come Keir Starmer Starmer, who had access to the state of the nation's finances, never mentioned it? The real motive in my opinion is political. Burnham and his team are worried that many middle class voters, underwhelmed by Labour's economic performance and fear of increased taxation in the future, might drift away from the party towards the Lib Dems. If they happen to be Remainers, which is quite likely, then this initiative might maintain or win back their allegiance. And the policy is working, as may be seen in the reaction of Richard, Jonathan and yourself, willing to overlook or otherwise justify Burnham's patent dishonesty in the hope of reversing the result of the Referendum.
