It seems wrong to attribute this kind of politics as a British phenomenon when it takes place in every democracy the world over and has done for a long time. We probably shouldn't feel to hard done by as London has disproportionately benefited from infrastructure spending for many decades and both the Conservative and Labour governments have tried to rebalance. You can call it political opportunism but they would say they were doing it in the interest of fairness. What exactly are you expecting Fleur Anderson to do that she hasn't already done? She has lobbied hard (much more so that the three other MPs whose constituents are directly affected by the closure) and kept the issue live in parliament at every opportunity. The OP is probably right that the rally will achieve nothing but we will find out fairly quickly if there is any short term progress after the Taskforce meeting. Nobody should be holding their breath but you never know...
