You are right that I should have considered the local elections as a factor but the national vote remains the critical one for Hammersmith Bridge. Local councils affected have no power to move this forward, it has to be done at a national level and therefore it is the considerations of central government which will drive any change.

They would rather not lose control of H&F and Wandsworth this May but what happens at the general election will be key. In any case I suspect internal polling is telling them that, while their vote share will be down they will hang on in both boroughs because any Tory recovery will be undermined by the Reform challenge.
