"Boris Johnson says there were 4,267 early deaths in London in 2008 attributable to long-term exposure to ‘invisible’ air pollution. This compares to 4,075 due to short-term exposure during the ‘visible’ Great Smog of 1952 when we knew nothing of the health impact of long-term exposure to air pollution. Only smoking causes more early deaths now." www.cleanairinlondon.org This is an issue which affects all Wandsworth residents, although there are particular concerns in Putney. The Putney Society has done a lot of work already to raise awareness of the issue and get the council on-board to start addressing the problems there. Each member of the panel will each do a short presentation which will be followed by a Q&A session. The panel includes: Cllr Russell King (tbc) - Wandsworth Borough Council Jonathan Callaway - Putney Society Simon Birkett - Founder & Director of Clean Air in London Why attend?    * Great opportunity to learn more about this vital issue    * Understand what the causes are, and ask questions to find out what is being done to improve the situation    * Network and meet other local residents who also care about this issue What can you do?    * Come along, learn and understand more about the problem    * Discuss with and question the panel as to how you can help    * Find out what others are doing Organised by the Wandsworth Environment Forum (WEF). WEF is a voluntary association which brings together residents and representatives of community groups to discuss their local environmental concerns and co-ordinate/initiate positive actions.
