Thanks for highlighting this meeting Jon. But for a prior commitment to regular Wednesday evening meetings, I would attend. Legislatively, I think there is very little left that can be done. Action is required and an acceleration of EU programmes could help. Action by TfL in finding far more investment for hydrogen and/or fuel cell fuelled buses or changing bus operator licences accordingly is probably all that we can wish for in the short term. Fares would have to rise as a result or central goverment must increase their subsidy but we know there is very strong resistance to both of those funding sources. With Ken Livingston reported to be promoting a "free lunch" myth of increased public transport subsidy as a populist plank for the mayoral election, this important issue may well be swamped by macro economic and financial considerations or we could be back to exponential increases in the GLA precept to the Council Tax. Possible unilateral action by WBC may be extremely limited and likely to be of little consequence but I for one will be pleased if you can post a report of any new initiative emerging from the meeting.
