Actually, I was thinking more widely about this last night and the *perfect* solution, ie in a dreamworld, would be a pontoon bridge over the Thames from Putney Wharf, around the church, under Putney Bridge and linking up with the road again at Putney Pier. A similar bridge has been installed underneath Chelsea Bridge from Battersea Park into the new development by the power station, and I understand that there might be a similar one being installed under the railway bridge at Battersea in the months/years to come. The riverside path is opening up underneath Wandsworth Bridge later this year so Putney riverside really is one of the last few missing links on the national cycle route! I think it all depends on money from the riverside developers though, so it's a shame it wasn't insisted on by the council and relevant authorities when the Putney Wharf development was built - I may be touching on old ground with this idea though - I'm sure you regulars will fill me in if so!
