John, STOPtheSHAFT are not against a solution to raw sewage in the Thames and are supportive of the objectives on this project - namely cleaning up the river. The group is not interested in trying to "win" you or anyone else over, we are acting to increase awareness on what impact this project may have, and acting on valid concerns on the use of the Barn Elms from residents, schools and local businesses and groups. We are working as hard as we can to ensure that any project, however it proceeds, limits impact to the local environment and people. This project will not address raw sewage being pumped into the Thames and the two CSO's in Putney according to figures from Thames water contribute less than 0.3% of the overall discharge to the river. Neither does the proposal deal with one of the biggest contributors - the regular "dumping" from Mogden STW. Considering the now conservative estimate of £3.6 billion, it seems like a lot to be spending for a project which doesn't solve the problem, which is even more of a kick in the shins for anyone affected by these plans in the local area. Regardless as I have said previously to you, I do believe the project will proceed, but how it proceeds is an unknown. You have every right to whatever opinion you hold on the plans and the problem of raw sewage in the river, and I would ask that you share that opinion with Thames Water (whether you are in favour or otherwise) during this first round consultation which ends this Friday 14th at 5pm. Finally I'm sure that people are getting tired of the facetious comments on this thread now and I'm sure you and I certainly have better things to do with this time. I am happy to re-iterate time and again our position and answer the attempts to counter the arguments of STS but quite frankly I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve with your post. If you are in favour of the tunnel, and want to fight for the Barn Elms site to be chosen over a Brownfield site, then please take action personally or find likeminded people who wish to engage with your views. |
