Neil, I'm sure being an intelligent articulate chap, you're more than capable of finding it. The STOPtheSHAFT group are only concerned with the choice of Barn Elms as a main shaft site and not the Thames Tunnel - so I believe you may be mis-informed. As such our campaign is focussed on the local area affected. I'm not sure you know this area very well but the site is essentially next to the towpath, used by more than 10 local schools for sporting facilities, next to a nature walk and the WWT Wetlands Centre and overlooked by a large number of flats from behind. The proposal will disrupt rowing and sailing and likely stop many river based activities since a Jetty/Wharf needs to be built far into the river to moor barges. New Roads for trucks need to be built (Potentially across Putney Common). Many major local organisations are objecting to this site and it is not necessary to use it since there are alternative tunneling strategies and locations that are suitable as we have been told by the Engineering Project Director. I do hope you've been able to research all the site selection documents, and impacts to your local area and feed back on the Southfields King George's Park proposals (as I understand from the Capsticks thread that you're a Southfields resident). Anyway must get back to sipping my lovely bottle of Chablis - we don't drink any old Chardonnay around these parts you know.... |
