I understand Ian Everley's frustrations. I have taken the matter of dangerous pavement cycling up with Dick Tracey, our Assembly Member, who has himself highlighted it to the new Borough Commander. I have spoken to Inspector Steve Allen, the relatively new Putney Sector inspector, and was astonished to hear from him that as he had not personally received a large number of complaints he could not accept that there was really a problem. Hopefully I disabused him of this thought and understand that the three Safer Neighbourhood Teams affected by the roadworks will continue to stop unlawful cyclists and will now begin to issue Fixed Penalty Notices to those whom their very full records show have been stopped and cautioned earlier. They will also be giving advice on where the cyclist diversions are. If you feel that Inspector Allen is being somewhat blinkered, given the large number of complaints on this website and made to ward councillors, please help me by contacting him at Putney Police Station formally complaining about the dangerous state of pavement cycling and asking him what further action he intends to take to control it.
