Thqnk you for raising this. I always cross roads using crossings but I'm not sure I'm any safer than if I strode out into the traffic. An elderly friend of a friend was knocked down by a cyclist on a crossing in the High St, and received a bleed on the brain from which she did not recover. Sometimes at crossing on Upper Richmond Rd I do not cross even when the light is in my favour because I can see cyclists who clearly have no intention of stopping. One even shouted at me "my problem is I don't like stopping". Cars, buses and lorries had stopped that day. I worry about guide dogs who set out the mooment they hear the beep, assuming it's safe to cross. But, as Lenin would say, what is to be done? Any likelihood of Sadiq Khan acting? |
