Besides obvious concerns about family travelling on transport with a high crime rate what really annoys me is that until it is safe and reliable we are excluding a large percentage of the population from wanting to use it. This has both a green and economic impact which is not highlighted in the media or by the Green lobby unfortunately. In fact many (usually males what a surprise) will dismiss such concerns. You can see this just by looking at the percentage of women commuting to the city. It is far too low. Of course there are other barriers but travelling safely from work to home should not be one of them.
