Hiya Resident of Norroy was walking home, on the phone, on Charlwood Road, outside Brown's Newsagent, 7.15pm on Thursday when he was attacked by 3 youths on bikes (16/17 year olds). They didn't take anything or demand anything - just hit him on the head. Thankfully he wasn't knocked out, but was badly shaken and had a bad headache. Another resident, a 16 year old boy, has been mugged 3 times in the last month. Once in Fulham, once in Bishop's Park, and on Friday night in Barnes. He wasn't on his own. No one was hurt, but it's very worrying that these attacks seem to be escalating. It seems that they think wearing maskes and helmets gives them free rein to do whatever they feel like doing, and unfortunately they're getting away with it. No one can identify them, and that doesn't give the police much to go on. I don't know if CCTV has caught any of these attacks, or what the police here or in Fulham are doing. I know there was a previous attack in Bishop's Park where the youth were identified as having come from Putney. It's very concerning, especially now it's going to be darker earlier. One tip I was given was to have a tin of deodorant, or hairspray or something similar in your bag. That could be used to in defence I suppose. There is a group of women who have set up a sort of self defence class - it's more how to react if you are attacked, how to use your legs if you're knocked down etc. I wonder if it's worth setting up a few classes like that? It's not just women who are being targeted. We need more funding from the Govt to go to the police, and many more police visible on the street, but honestly, who would want to be a policeman these days? There are upcoming SNT police meetings in Thamesfield and West Putney somewhere around 20 November. It's worth you coming along and putting forward your concerns and finding out what the police are doing. I'll post those meetings later when I've found the dates.
