| Hi David, I loved growing up in Huntingfield Road, I'm not sure if it came under Roehampton or Putney and in some ways I guess the Dover House Estate was a bridge between the two. It's not far from Putney with the nearest station being Barnes. Over the years when travelling the train after dark I have usually advised lone females to get off at Putney rather than Barnes. Lighting has improved enormously on the various paths from Barnes however historically Barnes station has had many incidents over the years and I'm not sure I would alter my advice. The sad fact is crime is on the rise even during daylight in towns such as Putney. We are expecting people, including lone women to take take public transport and walk home from stations when we can't guarantee their safety on TFL/Overground transport, never mind the unmanned stations or the secluded walks from stations to home. Women are 50% of our population. This is part of the reason why I say we can't have a green city with high crime! I do think that some people on this forum think that Putney town is typical of London. It is not! Getting of at a busy station such as Putney and walking home is not the same as getting off at more remote stations and bus stops. |
