What's interesting is that others who went out to support IS seems to have managed to gain entry back into the UK without any issues. Begum seems to have put herself in the limelight by conducting these interviews. The cynic in me does wonder if the current home secretary has a political interest in making an example of her, particular if he has higher positions in sight and wants to prove how well integrated he is. Begum seems rather naive to me and, looking at various sources including Wikipedia, it does look like she may have been befriended by young extremists and influenced to abscond not long after her mother had died of cancer and her father remarried. Not an excuse, but it's a different world to the one I live in so I find it difficult to judge. If she returned and was detained we might find out more about extremist groups carrying out this grooming" of youngsters? |
