Unfortunately the Times article is behind a paywall so it's not possible to read far enough to check what evidence they had to substatiate this. However, given she was married at 15, she's now pregnant and the IS healthcare would not be good enough to provide contraception and adequate maternity care it seems highly plausible she's had two children already who have died. What is of concern is that my understanding, from an Iraqi acquaintance, was that in the 1980s healthcare in the Middle East was quite reasonable and improving. It seems to be western intervention (Iraqi wars, suport for Arab spring, etc), without thought for the consequences or follow up, has caused things to degenerate. Be wary of poorly planned, radical change, the veneer of civilisation is very thin ... |
