Lucy I totally agree with you and especially at this time of political parties, national and local, this is the time to make some kind of stand. If you have any ideas to make a stand and lobbying, I would try to support you.

The other thing I have thought about is the cycle routes / as opposed to cycle paths on main roads.  Obviously this is impossible on bridges, but I love to take a well signed cycle route down back roads, much nicer, safer and probably faster eventually. In other words, our roads are far to small to add on cycle lanes, better to find alternative routes and have them well signposted.

I really don't think motorists have bad feeling toward cyclists, but this 'own the road' - behave just as a car would' is just crap.  Yes, I see how it benefits current cyclists now and we motorists are polite about it.

Once it becomes accepted in cyclists''modus operandi' esp in the climate of encouraging more cycling... it will be a disaster!!! I quite understand the thinking behind it and agee in principle.  But guys, there are a lot of loonies out there too, and people will quickly cotton on to it.Can you imagine the disaster, with not only cars, motorbikes, agressive white vans (sorry) pedestrians and then 'we're claiming the road'cyclists going at 20-30mpg.  Bloodshed!

I strongly believe that (despite all the political parties lip service) there should be a serious debate about cyclists' safety and backing.

I would do anything possible to lobby to our government(s) to improve cycle paths.

I think in little small squashy London we have to forget dedicated cycle lanes, except in new developments. I only say that because in places like Holland they have allthese facilities, but maybe they have more space, no idea.
