The thing about the Putney Bridge one is that is jammed full of buses and you have to ride out around the buses.
It is also full of pot holes.
And the cars don't pay any attention to it and drive as close as possible to it - on the line.
It doesn't make you any safer one bit.
Have you see it? Tried cycling in it at Rush Hour?

The problem is crossing over from the High Street to the Bridge.
You have to position yourself in the ASL with motorbikes revving all around you.
You face cars cutting you up to turn left around you.
You have to go straight ahead and that is a bus stop.
Well there are actually  3 bus stops.
So at rush hour the bridge is pretty full of bus stops
No this cycle lane doesn't make one iota of difference.

You can't cycle in the cycle lanes on The New Kings Road as cars park all the way down.
You can't cycle in the cycle lane going North on Putney Hill as the buses try and pin you to the side of the road.
the amount of times the 93 or 39 have got far far too close its been scary. I try and indicate to buses to leave space.
That cycle lane is a joke - there's no room for a cyclist and bus to pass at the island for example.
The buses love moving as far over to the left blocking out cyclists at the lights by Putney High School . This is because the lane just disappears all of a suddden. But just a few meters in front is an ASL. The buses figure if they can block the road to the left the cyclists can't get to the ASL. That means they don't have to wait for them getting to the bus stop in front so the cyclist has to swing out into the far right of the traffic flow to avoid the bus.
I don't bother - i just sit in the bus fumes usually. It's not worth it.
The upper richmond road one is the only decent one I can think of.
I love the cycle lanes in H&F and K&C though - they seem to work - down little back streets.
Oh except for motorbikes and scooters using the cycle/pedestrian routes on the way past Craven cottage to Hammersmith - they are always putting themselves through these specific cycle/pedestrian crossings.
