| Your sums don't quite add up, Michael. Under the EU Common Agricultural Policy farmers on average in the UK received a subsidy of £17 700 pa. The loss of this subsidy (or part of it, since British compensatory subsidies have not yet been phased out ) is hardly comparable with an IHT bill running into hundreds of thousands of pounds. Which would you prefer, to keep a subsidy £17 000 per year or pay hundreds of thousands up front in death duties? It's not hard, is it? I presume you despise Labour as being too right wing. If that is the case, who do you support? The Greens, an openly sectarian party which is appealing to extremist Muslims in order to get votes, a party which propagates the same kind of ideological idiocy as the Labour left and adds nonsense of its own? Here is a selection of their policies: raising the minimum wage to £15 per hour, a four day working week, increased taxes on the super rich, nationalisation of the 'big five' utilities, cancellation of the independent nuclear deterrent, free school meals, votes for 16 year olds, £20 billion for the NHS, £20 billion for social care etc. etc. Needless to say, there is no indication of where they intend to find the money to pay for all this free stuff. Regarding John's quip about Zack Polanski's former role as a hypnotherapist, I understand that he now regrets having told a woman that she could enlarge her breasts by concentrating very hard, but has he given her her money back? |
