Israel has been at war with the Palestinian majority population since 1948. Before that the Zionists were planning the coming war, the expulsion and the expropriation, and meanwhile committing acts of terrorism against their British erstwhile benefactors and protectors. Suddenly this immigrant minority were claiming that they were fighting an "anti-colonial" liberation struggle. And thanks to the uncommon alliance at the UN between the USA and the Soviet Union, enough members of the small UN of 1947 were pressured into voting for Partition, which favoured the the Jews over the Arabs. No Arab country voted for Partition. That should have been a clue as to what would happen. But no, and here we are in an ongoing mess. The Palestinians were there in the land, they had always been there, they still are there (some of them), but they were in the way. Trouble came to them. They did not go looking for it. But now they get the blame for it. In Western eyes anyway, and we always know best. |
