Martine, Hotham and Brandlehow are the only community schools in the maintained sector. All Saints has long-standing admissions criteria which specify that families be active in the life, worship and work of the Parish of Putney http://www.allsaints.wandsworth.sch.uk/admission.htm. So All Saints Primary will not be an option for some families. Ashcroft, St Cecelia's and Elliott all admit children from Putney at the secondary level based on distance criteria so whilst parents might think they have no choice, in fact they have more than other parts of the borough unlike Battersea where there is a shortage of secondary places hence the new Free School there. Here is the link to the secondary school admissions brochure http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/downloads/file/23/choose_a_wandsworth_secondary_school_2011 Most free schools, I am told, are set up because parents want a different type of school but there is also desperate pressure on numbers for a primary school in Putney. Michael Gove has said he will not allow free schools to become in any way selective either grammar or on religious grounds. |
