| This is the definition of a "Free School" as given by Councillor Maddan on his message further down this post "The term 'free' does not relate to the cost in this case. It relates to the style of management. A 'free' school is free from local authority and government control or indeed church control. It is managed by the community in the way that it is organised" Free Schools on this model have been tried in Sweden for some time and some say have been very successful, others however have doubts. A number of questions still need to be asked if they are to become part of the Education scene in Britain - not least about funding. |
