Maybe all those people stranded far from home (not just Brits abroad but foreign tourists and business people trapped over here) might have time to reflect that our ability to hop on a plane and fly the world cannot be taken for granted.  And that maybe we cannot sustain the massive use of non-renewable resources involved.  The silent skies are a reminder of how life used to be (when I was a lad, etc).

Just like the freedom we get from being able to get in our cars and drive wherever we want whenever we want, maybe we will come to realise these things can't go on for ever and that a quieter less energy intensive lifestyle also has its attractions.

And maybe when the shops start to run out of the things we used to import by air we might reflect that maybe we didn't need them after all.

I quite like this:  http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_8626000/8626927.stm

I'm off for a walk having spent a chunk of time at the Barnes Wetlands Centre yesterday.  Bliss.
