I wholeheartedly agree with Peter. It's sad, isn't it, that we have to rely on volcanoes, BA strikers and the occasional east wind to get relief from aircraft noise.
I've seen a letter to Justine, who has fought so hard for us, from some nonentity called Paul Clark, a junior aviation minister, about the court ruling on the 3rd runway. It really is quite breathtaking in its insolence. "In short, this judgment makes no change whatsover in our [the present government's] policy." I find his assertion "our analysis shows that they [your constituents] can expect to experience less noise in future as the older noisier aircraft are progressively replaced by newer, quieter models" particularly irritating. Does this fellow have a timescale for "in future" because at the moment, the planes thundering over my house  create an intolerable racket? Pigs are as likely to fly over Putney as "quieter" planes. There is no such thing as a "quiet" plane. I do wish the government wouldn't try this con trick. I live under it, I know what it's like.
