As the owner of a nine month old golden retriever, I am totally confused as to how anybody would want to own a dangerous dog like a pitbull or a Staffordshire Terrier. I think in a lot of cases the owners themselves are looking for a dog as a status symbol of power. It is disgusting.
A law passed in Denmark this year now means that it is illegal for people to keep Staffs or Pitbulls along with seven other breeds of dogs as pets. We need to have a law against them too. Three years ago on a green belt just off Dover House road, a dog was killed by two Staffs and the owner of the dead dog needed plastic surgery.
It is also very disturbing that many dog owners do not clean up the poo after their dog. It should be a bye-law that if a dog owner cannot produce poo-bags upon request from police or community officers, then a fine of £100 should be imposed.
